THE KEEPER CHAPTER 3

Chapter 3 Motola ran towards Chris’ side as they both laid flat on the ground.  One of the criminals took position by the front door, while the other hovered over them; cocking his gun at their heads. The third who appeared to be the leader of the group, sat majestically on the sofa. “Raise up your heads” he thundered “Please don’t let us do that” Chris replied from the floor “Just take whatever you want and leave us in peace”  “Yes please” Motola said fearfully The leader laughed loudly and repeated his request. Motola and Chris quickly raised their heads towards him but kept their eyes closed “Now sit on the floor and open your eyes” he shouted They obeyed him trembling “Good. I see you were having dinner; your anniversary dinner I presume?” Motola and Chris exchanged a surprised look. “You’re surprised I’m informed?” he asked smiling “Don’t be. You very well know who I am. Today is the day of reckoning, and I am here to exact my last revenge on you Christopher Emeka O...

THE KEEPER CHAPTER 2

Chapter 2 “Welcome home honey” Motola said collecting Chris’ briefcase “Thank you my love” he responded kissing her forehead. “You look amazing” he said “Thank you honey” she responded Motola shut the door as Chris walked towards the bedroom. He did a double take at the dinning and turned to see her smiling shyly behind him. “SURPRISE!!!!!” Motola exclaimed laughing “Wow my love, this is a wonderful surprise. So this why you told me you had to leave work early eh?” “Yes honey” Motola replied. “I wanted us to have a quiet, romantic anniversary dinner at home” Chris moved towards his beautiful wife, carried her and spun her round. “Please put me down, you’re very tired” she pleaded amidst laughter. “Not until you guess how much I love you” he replied “A whole lot” Motola said “No” “Very much?” “Not even close” he replied spinning her faster “Chris please put me down; we are going to wake Joana” He complied and set her on the floor, holding her to his chest as their breathing slowly ...

THE KEEPER CHAPTER 1

Hello dear reader, top of the morning to you. I hope like me, you're in high spirits this morning 💃   This year has been like a roller coaster ride, 😵 but thank God for his mercies.  With the ASUU strike still on, I have had more time to dedicate to my other passion, writing stories 😊😆😉 The story below is the first chapter from a short story I just completed titled "THE KEEPER". As usual, I will not publish all the chapters because I want to have it published 😁However, I will try to post 3 chapters here.  Do enjoy and share your opinion in the comment section, thank you 😘  Chapter 1 As night fell on the quiet government residential area of Ikeja Lagos, Motola Okafor smoothed the crease on her dining table cloth and took a step back to admire her work. The dishes with Chris’ favourite meal sat in the middle of the table, expensive china and silver wear neatly arranged, a bottle of champagne in the ice bucket, and two wine glasses beside each plate. The sce...

EXCEPT FROM THE RETREAT BY Aiyegbusi Ololade

Hello everyone, my apologies for the long absence 🙏 I have been preoccupied with studies for my Master's degree program 🎓 as well as other personal issues. During this time, I have been working on a pet project 😂 💃 I hope to have it published as a novel when I am done. Before that happens, enjoy this long except from the story 😂😘😉 "Thank you" said Lara when they were alone. "Don't mention it" he replied quietly. "I need to go, but I'll be back soon. I'll tell Zara to -" "Please don't tell her." Lara interrupted sitting up quickly. Malik frowned looking confused. "Why?" He asked I don't want her to worry about something so trivial." She replied "Too late. I already sent her a text, and I'm sure she's on her way here" he replied checking his phone. "Great!! She's probably panicking" Lara said standing up. She went to the window to look out, the sun was very bright. She h...

"I HEART YOU" : local or endearing?

Let me start by stating that I mean no disrespect to anyone but I have to ask, what is with this common phrase "I heart you?" Is it because of the general miconception that love exists in our hearts? Or because society has tagged the heart as the birth, growth and resting place of love? What about the other school of thought that believes love exists in our brain? After all, memories of your beloved is stored in your brain, so please where does the "I heart you" phrase come to play? Many will argue with me and say that the racing of our hearts when our beloved is closeby, justifys the phrase. If that is so, then I guess those who subscribe to the belief of butterflies in our tummy should be allowed to coin theirs? How will you react if someone says "I stomach you?" I don't know about you, but thoughts of little Red Riding Hood swallowed by the wolf will be my impression plus an obvious look of surprise followed immediately by horror. That is if I d...

A CRITIC ON THE IBB STATEMENT BY KASSIM AFEGBUA

On the 4th of February 2018, Mr Kassim Afegbua; spokesman of Retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida released a statement titled; Towards National Rebirth, in which the former military general said that it was time to sacrifice “personal ambition” for “national interest”. He asked Nigerians to cooperate with the president till he completes his term of office in May 2019, before giving way to new, young generation to assume the role of leadership; to make room for fresh blood so to speak.  The statement was without a doubt, a brutally honest appraisal of the state of the nation. Wreaked with political, economic and cultural crisis, Nigeria it seems is on his last legs. The Boko Haram insurgence, ethic wars, prevalent corruption, murders, kidnappings, molestation and quite recently, the unchecked activities of the Fulani herdsmen has cast doubt on the capacity of this administration to govern the nation. Like a sick man on life support, the nation is barely surviving, and without a mira...

LOVE ....... butterflies, electricity or simply the word itself?

LOVE!!!          A word that means different things to different people. Some get bitten by its bug at first sight, some much later, while some never even sight it in a million live times. I once knew someone who believed that when you love someone, you argue like old couples but have fun like teenage besties.          A lot of people mix love with lust or obsession. My definition of lust is pure animal attraction to beauty and sex appeal, while that of obsession is a compulsive emotion whereby a person's feelings and thoughts are controlled by a desire. A fair amount of us over think and analyse love. We are ruled by society's ideals and beliefs on what love means, what it should be and how it should feel. We need to relax and realize that   " love is just love "

THE PLIGHT OF THE MIDDLE CLASS

<----------- Rich Family Middle Class Family ----------->    The glaring variance between the poor and the rich dates back to prehistoric times. The rich were kings, nobles, dukes, lady royals and members of the court, while the poor were farmers, herdsmen, and slaves. Nowadays, the disparity isn't as obvious, as we now have the " Middle Class ". This are people I refer to as the " unclassified " or " social misfits " in the society. They are called the middle class because they are neither rich nor poor. I call them "unclassified" because they neither belong to the upper nor lower class. They are "social misfits" because though they don't fit in with the " big boys ", they will strongly remind you that they are better off than those beneath them. They are said to be " comfortable ".        Some have said that the rich have more compassion (on the poor) than the middle cl...

THE TIME IS NOW!!!

IT'S CLOSER THAN YOU THINK       The fact that we no longer cringe at the news of mass murder is frightening as it has become the norm for people to die everyday. We just pray that no one we know and love is as unlucky. We offer sympathy and condolences from the safety of our homes. But please take a moment to think about those unbelievers who have passed away and their opportunity for eternal life forever lost. Scary init?  I just want to remind everyone to please be prepared for the RAPTURE . We all go about our daily activities: going to work, running around to make ends meet, going to school, visiting friends etc, but its imperative that we don't forget why God sent us here . Its not too late to change course and board the ship sailing to eternal life in Heaven. Ask for Gods mercy and pass the message on. May we all be given the strength to keep our fire burning till HE arrives and lonnnnnnnnng after that. AMEN...

THE POPULAR SUBJECT OF DEBATES: Why Do Black Men Date White Women; Love or Insecurity?

Why do Black men date White women?   As a Nigerian female based overseas, I am asked this question all the time. Debates, arguments and hostile discussions have risen, but no one has really answered the question or enlightened society as to why this happens. Thankfully, it seems like some people have decided to come forward to finally put this quest to rest. I came across this article on Facebook written to a magazine called Sister 2 Sister by a Caucasian woman who wanted to air her views and have her questions answered. Hopefully it answers all your questions. Enjoy . PS: This post is not intended to hurt or offend any race or gender. It is also not written as a racial snide or for the purpose of racism. Please note that it was copied directly from a post on Facebook to set the record straight. Read with an open mind, thanks.   [It seems that an article was written to Sister 2 Sister magazine by a Caucasian woman...
A TRIBUTE TO FALLEN STARS                                          At the beginning of the year 2013, Nigerians were shaken by the sudden death of upcoming actress Bisi Komolafe. The young and talented actress' death came as a shock to all. Questions about her death arose and condolences were sent to her friends and family. While a few were still trying to come to terms with her sudden departure, death it seems wasted no time in striking another blow; its effect felt by not only Nigeria, but all of Africa. Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey, popularly known as " Goldie " has been reported dead. The news of the pop star's death broke on Valentine's Day, shortly after her return from a trip to the Grammy's in America. Goldie was a sweet and good natured person. She was...

The Spirit of Christmas

I took a drive through the streets of Lagos with my mom last week Saturday.  Everything and everyone I saw reminded me of how Nigerians were, are and will be. The roads were still terrible, the weather hot and the aura of the community still the same. The Okada riders continuously rode the streets despite warnings of impending ban, the PHCN was yet to release power to the people and prices sky rocketed as was the norm at the end of every year. But what baffled me were the people I saw. Even at Christmas time, they still had the purposeful stride to succeed. Each diligent step explained their drive to beat the odds and make ends meet despite the fact that the year is practically over. The belief that all wasn't lost was evident on their faces, and they all wanted to accomplish something before the year completely ran out.           Just before I got to my destination, I noticed the cars ahead had slowed down considerably. A coup...

THE ESTATE Chpt 1

Chapter 1    Peju entered the apartment feeling like she was carrying 10 bags of cement. The day had been hectic and she was tired and exhausted. Shutting the door behind her, the noise outside drowned out. The empty house and stark silence told her that Bayo  wasn't  home from school. Having closed her shop early today, she was the first to get home. Delighted by the privacy and silence, she dropped her bag on the table and headed towards the kitchen. Living in a two bedroom apartment  wasn't  exactly bliss. The apartment was confining and inadequate. Though Peju  didn't  exactly com from a rich family, she lived with her family in a 3 bedroom house built by her father before she got married to her husband Bode. Though not wealthy, the family led a comfortable lifestyle. Her father was a firm and fair man, while her mother was a disciplinarian who ruled the home and her husband with an iron fist. “Mama Peju” as she was fondly called ...

THE COW TAKING A STROLL!!!

A close friend of mine gisted me about his trip to Ibadan recently. It was so hilarious, I decided to share it with you. Enjoy: Deshile was very eager to attend his best friend's dad's thanksgiving ceremony. It was gonna start in the morning and finish by 2pm. He set out very early at around 7:15am to beat the traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. As luck will have it, he was on the express by 8:40am. Afraid of arriving late, he sped like a smuggler running from the police. He was soon to realize that his luck would run out. When last did you travel on the express? Quite recently? If not, let me acquaint you with "Deshile's Guide to : A Safe and Stress Free Journey On The Express" -Set out early -Check your tires, engine, petrol tank, etc -Pack enough food and drink for yourself and use the washroom before you set out -Pray to God for journey mercies - YOU WILL NEED IT Anyway, Shile's car was about to disappoint him.
